Cancer Fighting Smoothie #4

This smoothie recipe is based on Naturopathic Food Healing Science in the book Conquering ANY Disease the Ultimate High-Phytochemical Food Healing System, authored by QiGong Practitioner Jeff Primack.

Make sure you use organic and GMO free ingredients whenever possible.

  • 1 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1/4 head purple cabbage
  • 1 small red beet
  • 1/2 lime with pith & seeds
  • 1 Fugi apple with skin & seeds
  • 1 carrot
  • 1″ inch slice fresh ginger root
  • 3 fresh basil tops with stem

Place all ingredients in  high horsepower Vitamix or Blendtec blender and hold down the ‘pulse” button for 15 seconds.  Then let go and press the “up” arrow until it revs up to “Speed 10.”  the blender will cycle up to speed 10, then stop automatically after 50 seconds.  Blend for a minimum of 2 cycles for about 2 minutes total blend time. If you blend for a third cycle, add two ice cubes to keep the contents from getting overly hot.

FDA Finally Wants To Ban Trans Fats

It’s inconceivable that for over a century, our FDA has allowed disease producing trans fats / partially hydrogenated oils in our foods.

Artery clogging trans fats / partially hydrogenated are found in many processed foods,  margarine , crackers, cookies, pizza and many baked goods.

The Food and Drug Act of 1906, during President Theodore Roosevelt’s office was established to protect the public from food that had been “adulterated” or “mislabeled” and applied penalties to the manufacturer is “standard of strength, quality or purity” of the active ingredient was not either stated clearly on the label or listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia or the National Formulary.

In 1909, Proctor and Gamble started marketing the first hydrogenated shortening Crisco (partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil), and gave away free Crisco cookbooks to promote their product.  Even though as early as 1956 scientific literature showed that trans fats could cause the large increase in coronary artery disease, these concerns were ignored by the FDA.

In 1994, it was estimated that trans fats caused 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 deaths a year.

Trans fats are harmful because they increase risks for heart disease by both raising bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and lowering good cholesterol (HDL). In 2007 New York City was the first city to ban trans fats from restaurants. Since then, 15 states and localities have followed New York’s example.

Porchia’s pH* Platter: Salmon & Kale

Grilled salmon and kale

Porchia’s Grilled Salmon & Coconut Wilted Kale*

  • Ingredients:
  • Wild Copperhead Salmon
  • Curly red or green kale, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup raw pumpkin seeds, coarsely chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 Tble organic coconut oil
  • 1 Tble extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Cracked Himalayan sea salt
  • Cracked tri-colored peppercorns

So yummy and light for hot summer weather!   Lightly score salmon in hatch-work pattern to allow seasoning to penetrate meat.  In separate small bowl, mix olive oil, lemon,  half the turmeric, sea salt and pepper to taste and drizzle over scored salmon. Let marinade while you prepare greens.

Directions: Place a tablespoon of organic coconut oil,  turmeric and paprika in a stir fry pan and heat over moderately high flame.  Add pumpkin seeds and stir fry over high heat for 30 seconds until  pumpkin seeds are tender. Add grated carrot, chopped kale greens and stir fry for 1 minute tossing greens in oil continuously until coated.  Remove from heat before greens are overcooked.  You want them only slightly wilted and still rather crisp.  Season with cracked Himalayan sea salt and cracked tri-colored peppercorns.  Place on serving dish.

Place seasoned salmon on outdoor barbeque or stove-top grill pan.  Salmon can easily become too dry if over cooked so you want to remove it from the heat when the inside just turns opaque.  Place salmon over bed of wilted greens and serve warm.

This dish can also be served chilled for a summer picnic and is best if you make a little extra marinade and pour it over your cold salmon and greens before serving.

*Porchia’s recipes are always conscientious of pH balance of alkaline and acid foods. 

Studies show that cancer cannot thrive in an Alkaline environment, so it is important to eat higher ratio of foods that are neutral pH and Alkaline pH and minimize acidic foods.  It takes 20 parts of ALKALINITY to Neutralize 1 part ACIDITY in the body; i.e. kale, dark leafy greens, cabbage family, beets, etc.

Beating Stage 4 Cancer

Elizabeth was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the anus and womb area in November 2012 and was also going through an out of state divorce.  I started working closely with Elizabeth on day one of her chemo treatment February 1, 2012.  The intensive healing work Elizabeth and I focused on was around releasing past emotional hurt, disappointment, anger, blame and pain along with limiting and dis-empowering beliefs that held an internal state of dis-ease, fear, judgment and anxiety.

Working together on the conscious and subconscious levels and with deeply healing processes of compassionate Self-forgiveness, Elizabeth replaced these low vibration thoughts and emotions with new Self-loving, Self-honoring and Self-nurturing actions, ways of being and holding within herself that create a positive and high inner vibration field of energy which supports immune function.

She completed six weeks of chemo and radiation, went through a waiting period of two months during which she moved back to her Florida home and focused on recovery, detoxing and boosting her immune system through diet, supplementation and continued Self-loving and Self-nurturing. She returned to Los Angeles for her body scan on June 5th.
On June 6, I accompanied her to get results from her oncologist, who said,

Liz and I went to Agape Church that Sunday morning and I secretly slipped a note to Reverend Michael Beckworth about this GREAT news for Elizabeth.   At the end of Sunday’s 9:00 a.m. service, Reverend Michael announced to the congregation, “Elizabeth Craig, diagnosed with stage 4 cancer eight months ago.  After six weeks of chemo and radiation she is now cancer FREE !      Prognosis: Life!”

 The congregation applauded and cheered. Reverend Michael invited Elizabeth on stage where she gave her own message of HOPE to anyone who might be faced with a similar challenge of cancer.

8 Levels of Emotions & Health

When repressed negative emotions such as anger, fear, anxiety, despair, guilt and shame are held in the mind, this causes internal stress to which the body’s autonomic nervous system responds by moving into the protection mode response, (freeze, flight or fight response), triggering elevated levels of stress hormones “cortisols to flood the body in preparation to act swiftly for self preservation. When these stress hormones remain elevated in a chronic condition, one’s immune function is suppressed.  This is why some teenagers will get sick with headaches, stomach problems, colds and flu around final exam time.

As cellular biologist Bruce Lipton has proved in his ground-breaking book The Biology of Belief, the human cell can move into protection mode (FFF response, Cortisol flooding, supressed immune function) or it can move toward the growth mode (love, nurturing, safety, improved T-cell function, boosting immune function), but it cannot move in both directions at the same time.

Negative emotions repulse optimum immune function and Positive emotions  attract optimum immunce function.

Setting Intentions For New Possibilities

It’s easy to get stuck in a mental rut, doing the same thing, going to the same places and encountering the same crowd. No matter how much you like your daily routine and circle of friends, sometimes your world can feel really small and confined.

Situational depression triggered by losing a job, ending a relationship or marriage, losing someone close, or becoming an empty nester can cause feelings of separation from Self and others. You may ask, “What’s the point?   Why don’t I just give up trying?”

I experienced this small world outlook when trying to figure out how to support myself post divorce after being out of the work force during my 16-year marriage.  I was middle age with little skills, my previous career as an interior designer was now dominated by young people with computer skills that I knew nothing about.

I felt a gaping void in my heart from the loss of husband and family and I saw myself as an obsolete buoy, floating aimlessly in a vast sea of proficient, highly trained schools of technicians.  “How can I possibly compete in a workforce that is highly skilled, half my age and requires half the salary I would need to survive?”  I felt completely hopeless and helpless.

I intuitively knew that Nature was an essential element in healing this emotional void and bring me back to center. I also knew from early dance training and yoga that moving my body was necessary to move the “stuck energy” of emotional injury.

I set an intention to reinvent my Self and started a daily healing routine of mountain biking to the top of the mountain.  Overlooking a 360 degree view of Los Angeles, Santa Monica beaches and the San Fernando Valley, I said my prayers, did meditation and  yoga.

Each day as I rode up the fire trails, I asked for the healing beauty of Nature to fill the hole in my heart with love, Light and the beauty that surrounded me on this 10-mile loop.  There were many screams of anger, breathless questions asking “why” and cleansing tears that streamed down my cheeks during the strenuous uphill ride.

Day by day, little by little the gaping void began to fill with love and appreciation. Tears of pain, turned into tears of Self-love. I realized the gift I received in allowing myself to experience the fullness of the pain of loss, disappointment and hurt, was equal to my large capacity to give and receive love, to be joyful and let Light in.

My self-designed healing process taught me a lot about the body-mind connection and I knew health and wellness would be my new career path. My certification in massage, cranio-sacral and other modalities educated me on human physiology.  Researching my next step professionally, I found a master’s degree program in Spiritual Psychology which for me was the missing link holistic health and wellness.

Trusting I am never alone, but guided by Spirit, I conquered and moved through my fears of inadequacy and feeling “less than” others, obtaining my master’s degree.   During this formal education I learned many counseling skills from the perspective that acknowledges,  “We are each Divine Beings having our own unique human experience on Earth.”

This paradigm shift is integrated into interpersonal neurobiology, somatic awareness, inner child healing and creative expression to comprise the basis for Porchia’s W.I.S.H. Whole Integrated Self Health, Approach to Healing, Loving and Living Consciously.
