Holistic means addressing the whole person to create and maintain optimum health and wellness. Traditional medicine has become compartmentalized with doctors specializing in one part of body only. This is fine for broken bones. However, the human body has been expertly engineered to work as a whole unit with one system of the body dependent on and supporting other parts of the body.
Holistic and integrative medicine recognizes that a multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare provides the maximum therapeutic benefit.
Dianne Porchia looks to integrate effective stress reduction techniques, mind-body medicine principles and body-mind-heart-soul wellness practices into your daily routine for creating life in balance. Holistic health and wellness means looking at the five levels of one’s life:
Physical Level: Diet, nutrition, exercise, work habits and lifestyle factors
Mental Level: Thoughts, beliefs and values motivate behaviors which are either supportive or not supportive of one’s goals.
Emotional Level: Feelings and emotions follow thoughts, beliefs and values and affect the physical body on a cellular level.
Subconscious Level: Thoughts and feelings hidden from the conscious mind that motivate behavior and can feed an “inner saboteur.”
Spiritual Level: Source of spiritual growth, personal healing, love, forgiveness, compassion. The heart and soul level is where all healing takes place.
The mind is a tool to be used in service to the heart. The mind is where the ego resides with all of its protection mechanisms that have been developed through childhood in order to make itself fee safe, secure and free from harm. However, at some point during the maturation process one may discover that all these protection mechanisms operating in the psyche and subconscious are creating huge blocks and barriers to the love and intimacy one desires in relationship, the success in one’s career and work or the health and vitality one desires with their body.

Wake-up calls can happen in a variety of ways that alert onesometimes as a result of a divorce, break-up or death of a loved one; losing a job, being passed up in promotion, hitting a ceiling of success; or having a serious illness, disease or accident.
Holistic Stress Reduction: Porchia uses effective stress reduction techniques, mind-body medicine principles and body-mind-heart-soul wellness practices tailored to each individual client. Integrated wellness practices may include any combination of the following:
Floating Sessions. No holistic health and wellness treatment is complete without including nature. Unique to sessions at the Topanga Retreat is its proximity to the fresh outdoors and therapeutic use of Nature as teacher, healer and inspiration. Porchia’s unique and therapeutic Floating Bed hangs from a large oak tree and is often used for sessions with adolescents and teenagers, immediately establishing rapport and shared experience while setting the tone for a casual, fun and therapeutic session.
Adults, too, are encouraged to spend 10-15 minutes in the Floating Bed to journal after sessions, in order to integrate the work and ground the individual in Nature before driving out of the canyon back to city life.
Porchia’s Topanga Retreat canyon location in the Malibu / Santa Monica Mountains, is minutes from the beach communities of Malibu, Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica to the West; Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Agoura, Thousand Oaks to the North; and Encino, Tarzana, Studio City, North Hollywood, Hollywood and Beverly Hills to the East. However, phone and Skype sessions are also available and can be just as effective and deep once rapport has been established.
