MIND-BODY MEDICINE It’s much more than thinking positive.
What is mind-body medicine? The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, NCCAM, defines mind-body medicine as a field that "uses a variety of techniques designed to enhance the mind's capacity to affect bodily function and symptoms." Standard treatment approaches used in mind-body medicine start with stress reduction practices such as meditation, breathing exercises and visualization. However, a truly holistic approach to health and wellness involves much more than these three basic mind-body medicine interventions.
The field of psycho-neuro-immunology studies the relationship between the psychological process, the nervous system and the immune system of the human body. Your immune system is the key to good holistic health and wellness and it is directly connected to your psychological, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Thoughts and beliefs trigger emotions, which stimulate neuro-physio responses in the body and motivate behavior.
SURVIVING ILLNESS, DISEASE & CANCER
The key to surviving and thriving after serious illness, disease or cancer is immune system health. Whether or not you decide to follow traditional allopathic medicine protocols for treatment, creating and maintaining strong immune function is critical to your recovery.
The human body always wants to return to balance. When we get sick or injured the body naturally starts to heal. The healing process is largely determined on how well the immune system is functioning.
Chronic stress weakens immune function making your body more susceptible to illness, disease and cancer. Stress can come in the form of environmental toxins as well as mental and emotional toxins that create an internal state of distress, which releases stress hormones called “cortisols” into the bloodstream, thereby weakening immune function.
Stress related disorders include: heart disease, hypertension, irritable bowel, ulcers, acid reflux and other gastro-intestinal disorders, tension headaches, migraines, asthma, obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety, infertility, Alzheimer’s, accelerated aging, cancer, premature death and more.
Blaming other people for your mental or emotional state of being is not effective in reducing stress. No one controls how you choose to hold your thoughts and beliefs inside yourself. You always have the freedom to make other choices in your life which can move you further away from stress provoking people and situations.
Ask yourself, “What is the most Self-loving, Self-nurturing and Self-honoring choice I can make in this moment?”
Healing Deep Levels of the Heart & Subconscious Mind
Each child develops a unique strategy to help them feel safe and secure in their environment. These survival strategies are protection mechanisms which develop in the child’s subconscious mind helping them to react to situations and challenges for self-preservation.
These protection mechanisms are carried through into adulthood until the time the adult discovers some survival strategies are no longer working in their favor, but rather are creating walls and barriers to the love, connection, intimacy, success, health and happiness they desire.
However, changing thoughts and beliefs is easier said than done because decades of past thinking patterns have become deeply embedded in the neuro-pathways of the brain. In addition, the subconscious mind has a loud voice, known as the “inner saboteur” voice. The inner saboteur believes it’s belief system is a matter of life or death of the ego and therefore is very resistant to change.
Thankfully, the brain has neuroplasticity, which means it can create new neuro-pathways through a technique called neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). However, even NLP is not fully effective without first healing deep levels of the heart and subconscious mind.
Dianne Porchia is masterful at facilitating effective deep healing work on the subconscious level to turn an inner saboteur voice into an inner ally to support health, wellness, personal growth, professional development and loving relationships. Techniques include powerful inner child healing work, sacred anger work, somatic dialogue, compassionate self-forgiveness and neuro-linguistic programming, guided visualization, meditation, mindfulness, diaphragmatic breathing, QiGong and heart-soul centered communication skills.
